Ever since childhood, I have been fascinated with anything that shines and throws prisms of color when in sunlight. My parents had five children; mom would sit us down with glass beads and string on rainy days, so I started young.
Usually, I would put a crystal or other object on the end of the chain in the suncatcher. With this design, I wanted the crystal to be prominent directly at the bottom of the design and not partially hidden by the dangles. I made oval-shaped jump rings to extend the distance between the crystal and the dangles. I added a large white and purple stone bead with features that make the stone look cracked in many places, some distances from the crystal. I like how you get glimpses of the cracked stone when the piece moves.
The colors remind me of peacocks as the colors in the piece are gorgeous purples, greens, and blues. I added some pink as well.
Each jump ring was shaped by hand, cut by hand, placed in a tumbler to shine and polish, and reassembled by hand.
For each dangle I hand make from copper, I start with creating an eye pin to which I add beads and charms.
Included in this design are two beautifully polished and electroplated agate slices.
This suncatcher would be perfect for any porch or sunny window!
